It is no secret that women love shoes. Honestly, I have no qualms about this. I know, I know…all significant others are pulling their hair out due to me violating the “code”. I myself used to dread going into shoes stores with my wife. But after I REALLY thought about the purpose of having shoe choices, a lightbulb went off in my head. It allows a woman to be prepared for any occasion. I see eyewear in the same light. Think about it: one has a certain pair of shoes for church, working out, their occupation and a night out on the town. The same concept applies to glasses. As eyecare professionals, we have greatly failed by trying to mind ones wallet instead of their lifestyle. It is imperative that we prescribed multiple pairs to accommodate a patient’s lifestyle. Think about it…If one spends a lot of time in front of the computer with multiple monitors, computer glasses should be prescribed. If one has a job outside, emphasis should be placed on prescription sunglasses. Again, we need to prescribe based on our patients’ lifestyles. It will increase profit in your practice and keep patients loyal to the practice.
